Recharge Your Motivation And Drive

Recharge Your Motivation And DriveHopelessness and discouragement block our motivation because we see no reason to put energy into a project or pursuit. How do we get back the drive when it’s gone? How do we revitalize ourselves when the juice isn’t there?

First of all, there are interests you may be trying to pursue that your heart is just not involved with due to lack of passion. If that is the case, ask yourself if you need to do this activity. Perhaps you had an interest in knitting 3 years ago and now are chastising yourself for not continuing with the project you began.

If you truly have no interest in it, ask yourself what you are now interested in and see if that may be something more energizing and fulfilling for you. You do not have to finish something from the past if it seems to offer no joy at this point. Sometimes we feel we need to finish something because we started it. Is this an assumption that makes sense?

There are other situations which we need to complete due to an obligation or prior commitment. This may be a work related requirement or a family obligation or promise to a friend. If this is the case , it is helpful to try to visualize what gave you the energy to begin with when you began the project. It could be your career goals, your loyalty to your family or your friendship vow.

Try to feel this again and let it renew you. Think about the satisfaction you’ll be giving to another person or the rewards you may receive. We can’t always picture the future, but try to look at the hoped for outcome and how you’ll feel once you accomplish this goal.

At some point in time you when you began the project you may have been excited about it.Turn deep inside yourself and try to again feel the spark that was there. One common block often happens when something seems hard in the project and there is an uncertainty.

You may have then abandoned it and now feel resistance to pursue it. Tell yourself you can overcome that part that seemed difficult and look at it again with new eyes. If it is a work context where you met a snag, see if you can ask a supervisor or fellow co-worker about that section.

If it is a home project, stop by the local home improvement store. You can also use the internet and various newsgroups and support forums as a wonderful vehicle to toss around ideas, get feedback and go beyond the sticky point in your project.

This will recharge you and you’ll feel beyond the block and greatly relieved…

Welcome back!
